Visual Basic 6 (VB6) Consulting & Rescue
I'm Thurston Clark — I built three-tier VB6 systems, COM+ components, and hardware integrations through the 1990s and 2000s, and I pair that with modern PHP/HTML web development. I stabilize VB6 applications, untangle their dependencies, connect them to the web, and migrate them when ready.

The VB6 problems I solve
Broken on modern Windows — VB6 runtime, OCX/DLL registration, 32-bit dependencies, and permission issues on Windows 10/11.
Dependency archaeology — untangling COM components, third-party controls, and database connections nobody documented.
Database trouble — ADO connection failures, Access/SQL Server back-end issues, data corruption.
Needs to talk to the web — APIs, web services, and browser frontends wired into your VB6 system.
Time to migrate — phased VB6-to-web migrations, scoped honestly after a Health Check.

A VB6 developer who also builds for the web
VB6 systems rarely live alone — they're usually tied to databases, hardware, and (increasingly) the web. My hybrid background is the point:
• Built a multi-tier web work-request system: HTML/JavaScript frontend → ASP (VBScript) → VB6 COM+ components → ADO → FoxPro tables. Web-to-legacy integration is something I've done since it was genuinely hard.
• Built a Palm PDA work-order entry system with a VB6 sync conduit — legacy-to-device integration, same muscle, different decade.
• Today I build modern PHP web applications, including IndustryDocs' Stripe-integrated store and secure delivery platform. So your migration target is a stack I operate daily — and your interim step can be a web frontend on the existing VB6 data.
Field notes
A refinery deployment, far from home. Integrated CAD viewers, Oracle document management, and workflow/email into FoxPro/VB6 applications using VB6, C, OLE, SQL, ODBC, and FTP — deployed on-site at a refinery in Venezuela. Legacy work sometimes means going where the system lives.
Accounting systems, customized deep. Customized ACCPAC/SBT Pro accounting systems in Visual FoxPro with EDI interfaces to the Sterling VAN — the unglamorous integration work that keeps money moving.
From VB6 to VB.NET to PHP. I've walked the whole path: VB6 COM+ components, VB.NET/SQL Server web forms with payment processing (Moffitt Cancer Center), and modern PHP web platforms. When I scope your migration, it's from experience, not a brochure.
Services & pricing
Legacy System Health Check — $1,500 fixed. Full inventory of your VB6 application: components, dependencies, data layer, OS risk. Plain-English report with a phased roadmap.
Emergency Rescue — $250/hr, 4-hour minimum. Down system, broken install, database failure. Fast remote response.
Keep-the-Lights-On Retainer — $750/month. Monitoring, quarterly integrity checks, priority response, small fixes. 3-month minimum.
Web Enablement & Migration — fixed-price, scoped after Health Check. Web services and browser frontends on your VB6 system, or full migration to a modern PHP web application.
Questions
Which VB6 technologies do you cover? VB6, COM+/ActiveX, ADO/ODBC, OCX controls, with Access, SQL Server, Oracle, and DBF back ends. Plus VB.NET and ASP from the transition era.
Our VB6 app won't install on Windows 11. Can you fix that? Usually yes — runtime registration, dependency manifests, compatibility shims, and installer rebuilds are standard rescue work.
Can you connect our VB6 system to a web API? Yes — that's the web-enablement service, and it's the same kind of integration I've built since the 2000s.
Should we rewrite from scratch instead? The Health Check answers that honestly. Sometimes "stabilize and web-enable" beats a rewrite on cost and risk — and I'll say so.
Do you work remotely? Yes, worldwide. On-site when needed.
Let's look at your system.
